It’s now September, which means that most kids have already started school. That means new backpacks, dreaded homework assignments, and the school cafeteria!

It’s Easter time again! Time for little bunnies and chocolate candy and the smell of vinegar mixing with dye tablets (we always made way too many colored Easter eggs when I was little!). It’s the perfect time of year for a bright, cheerful cake. After most of you have slogged through a winter packed with snow and ice, don’t you deserve a springtime-y cake filled with meyer lemon curd, covered with fresh strawberry frosting and topped with fresh flowers?

Another Valentine’s Day is nearly upon us!
Last year I made these super cute chocolate tuxedo strawberries, which were a big hit for sure! I wanted to create a rich and somewhat fancy dessert for Valentine’s Day this year. I knew I wanted to incorporate chocolate into this dessert, cause what’s Valentine’s Day without chocolate? Chocolate mousse just seemed to be the quintessential romantic dessert, so I had the main part covered. When it came time to think of some sort of garnish or additional element, what’s a more popular romantic combination than chocolate with roses?

Man, what a year 2013 has been. I can’t recall a more roller coaster year in recent memory.
I hope y’all can look back on 2013 with at least a little fondness. It had its ups and downs for me, that’s for sure. New friends were gained, old friends were reconnected with, my family grew closer, and there were definitely tears shed and moments of sadness and despair but all’s well that ends well, I guess. If I look back at the past 10 years or so, even-numbered years always seem to treat me better. So, let’s hope that 2014 is a good one!
